— SPECIALTY APPLICATIONS

Beyond Trauma. Built for Complex Open Surgery.

Many surgeons first encounter the TITAN CSR® retractor through its use in trauma and emergency surgery.

Today, surgeons use the TITAN CSR® retractor across a broad range of complex open procedures requiring rapid setup, hands-free exposure, and operative flexibility.

Combining rapid self-retaining deployment with Bookwalter®-compatible accessory blades, the TITAN CSR® retractor supports trauma, emergency, elective, and specialty procedures—without requiring a post or attachment to the operating table.

One System. Multiple Surgical Applications.

The TITAN CSR® Retractor System can be configured for a wide range of complex open procedures across multiple surgical specialties.

Its Post-Free™ frame eliminates the post and table attachments, while interchangeable accessory blades, Bookwalter® compatibility, and integrated illumination allow surgeons to adapt exposure to the procedure, anatomy, and operative environment.

Why the TITAN CSR® Retractor Works Across Surgical Specialties

Designed to Adapt as Procedures Evolve

Complex open procedures rarely follow a predictable path.

As a case progresses, exposure requirements can change. Surgeons may need access to deeper anatomy, additional working space, or the flexibility to reposition retraction as the procedure evolves.

No Table Attachment

The Post-Free™ design eliminates the need to attach the retractor to the surgical table, providing greater freedom around the operative field.

Adjustable, Self-Centering Frame

The expandable frame adapts to different incision lengths and changing exposure requirements.

Rapid Assembly & Deployment

Lightweight titanium construction and one-way assembly support rapid setup for planned procedures, emergencies, and conversions to open surgery.

Bookwalter®-Compatible

Use familiar blades and attachments to customize exposure without changing established techniques.

Hands-Free, Customizable Exposure

Accessory blades can be positioned and repositioned as the procedure and exposure requirements change.

Targeted Cordless Illumination

The Lighted Retractor Blade and sterile Blade Light provide approximately 90 minutes of targeted illumination without a fiber-optic cable or external light source.

Many Hospitals Start With Trauma—Then Expand Across Service Lines

Many hospitals first adopt the TITAN CSR® retractor for trauma and emergency surgery. But that is often only the beginning.

As surgeons gain experience with the system, use can expand into elective and specialty procedures where rapid setup, customizable exposure, and Post-Free™ access provide meaningful advantages.

The TITAN CSR® Retractor System can support multiple service lines, increasing clinical utility and reducing reliance on separate retraction platforms for different specialties.

TITAN CSR® retractor in expanded configuration

Peer-reviewed findings published in Trauma Surgery & Acute Care Open concluded that:

“The TITAN CSR® has the potential to become the new retractor standard.”

Supported by Clinical Experience and Comparative Research

A peer-reviewed study published in Trauma Surgery & Acute Care Open reported use of the TITAN CSR® retractor in 89 adult and pediatric abdominal operations at an academic Level I trauma center.

The system provided effective abdominal, pelvic, vascular, and retroperitoneal exposure without requiring attachment to the operating table.

A DoD-sponsored comparative study found that the TITAN CSR® retractor with accessory blades provided the greatest measured abdominal surface-area exposure across all incision lengths tested, including greater exposure than the Bookwalter® retractor, and received the highest surgeon-rated exposure score (4.9/5).

Evaluate the TITAN CSR® Retractor for the Procedures You Perform

Every surgical specialty presents different exposure requirements. A specialty-focused demonstration allows surgeons to evaluate the TITAN CSR® retractor in the context of their own procedures and exposure challenges.

During the demonstration, surgeons can assemble and configure the retractor, work with familiar Bookwalter®-compatible blades, and review clinical videos and images from challenging specialty cases.

Whether your practice includes colorectal, surgical oncology, vascular, ALIF, transplant, thoracic, or other complex open procedures, ASR Systems® can help determine how the TITAN CSR® Retractor System may support your operative approach.
